With more than 30 million monthly page views and an Alexa ranking under 250, Mashable ranks as one of the world’s largest websites, according to Wikipedia. The website has a large following on many social networks, has over two million Twitter followers and over 330,000 fans on Facebook.
On November 27, 2007, Mashable launched the 1st Open Web Awards to recognize the best online communities and services. The goals of the awards is to create conversations around technology and innovation, encourage engagement within the Mashable audience, set the standard for innovation around competition, and identify and celebrate the best of the best. Winners of the first Open Web Awards included Digg, Facebook, Google, Twitter, YouTube, ESPN and Pandora.
The first Open Web Awards in achieved more than 250,000 votes and more than 20 million page views combined, between Mashable and 50 international blog partners. The second Open Web Awards in 2008 included more than 26 categories, saw more than 100 Blog Partners (from 25 countries and written in 10 different languages), 50,000 total nominations, 80,000 total votes in the first round, and 90,000 votes in the final round. The third Open Web Awards in 2009 included 50 winners, achieved more than 440,000 nominations with over 70,000 nominees and 780,000 final votes.
For 2010, the Open Web Awards was renamed the 4th Annual Mashable Awards. The Mashable Awards Gala was held during the 2011 International CES on January 6, 2011 in Las Vegas to announce the winners. The party and award show was held at Cirque du Soleil’s Zumanity Theater at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. The event was attended by more than 1,000 guests and was streamed live on Mashable’s site.
LG was a Premier Partner for the 4th Annual Mashable Awards Gala, along with Ford. As a key sponsor, LG was recognized at the Awards Gala by the editorial staff of Mashable and was given the opportunity to present one of the awards to a winner.
The 4th Annual Mashable Awards Gala was hoted by Baratunde Thurston, an editor at The Onion (www.theonion.com), a popular comedy news site.
During the Award Gala event, the audience was treated to a short performance by some of the stars of “Zumanity”.
All in all, it was a great evening for all the LG staff who attended and everyone enjoyed the main dish at the Gala Dinner – MASH!
